Mrs. Alice Wright McNeil

The family of Mrs. Alice Wright McNeil, age 82, announces her passing which occurred on Friday, October 2, 2020, at Eno Pointe Assisted Living, 5600 N. Roxboro Road, Durham, North Carolina 27712. Alice Wright McNeil, was born June 10, 1938 to the late John Henry Wright and Emma Dewey Payton. Alice received her education at Jones County Public Schools and received a Nursing degree from Durham College. She was employed by Duke University as a nurse and retired after thirty-five years of serving her patients with dignity, respect and true compassion. Alice was a phenomenal mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, teacher, baby sitter, friend, counselor and a true matriarch of her family. Alice was united in holy matrimony to the late Douglas Oliver McNeil. She was a faithful member of Kyles Temple A.M.E. Zion Church and served as a president of the deaconess board until her declining health. Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Wright and Emma Payton; husband, Douglass Oliver McNeil; brothers, Earl Payton and John Henry Wright; and sister, Georgia Etta Wilder. She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Tammy McNeil, Rhonda Harper, Valerie McNeil; two sons, Rev. Freddie McNeil (Tammy) and Michael D. McNeil; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Lillian Mae Payton; two sisters-in-law, Ester Wright of Maysville, North Carolina and Margie Payton of Pollocksville, North Carolina; and a host of extended family members and friends. Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32- "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ". Viewing for Mrs. Alice Wright McNeil will take place on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, from 12:00 noon - 2:00 p.m. at Scarborough & Hargett Celebration of Life Center, Inc., 309 N Queen Street, Durham, North Carolina 27701. A graveside service of celebration has been scheduled for Thursday, October 8, 2020, at 12:00 noon at Glennview Memorial Park, 2515 NC Hwy 55, Durham, NC, 27713, with Pastor Soloman Missouri delivering the eulogy.
