Dorlene Denise Thomas

The passing of Dorlene Denise Thomas, age 61, at Duke Regional Hospital, is being announced by her mother, Mrs. Doris J. Thomas. Ms. Dorlene Denise Thomas, (affectionately known as “Nece”), daughter of the late Lorenza Thomas and granddaughter of the late Dock Thomas and Isabelle Jones Thomas, was born on July 29, 1960 in Durham, North Carolina. Ms. Thomas departed this life on September 24, 2021 at the Duke Regional Hospital, 3643 N. Roxboro Road, Durham, North Carolina. Dorlene received her education in the Durham County Public School System. After High School, Dorlene worked for North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company, Durham, North Carolina. She was employed for 35 years and after a successful career she retired in 2013. Dorlene, was a member of His Kingdom Ministries Church, Durham, North Carolina. Her loving church family and friends will miss her dearly. Whenever she entered the church it was her smile that everyone had grown accustomed to. She loved the Lord, and it was evident in her praise. It was nothing for her to take a praise lap around the church enjoying her God. She attended regular church services as her health permitted. She leaves to cherish her memories and mourn her loss, her loving Mother, Doris Jean Thomas. One Brother, Bishop Randall K. Thomas (Janice) and, One Sister, Cynthia L. Thomas, all of Durham, North Carolina; Three Uncles, Johnnie Thomas (Joyce) Durham, North Carolina, Uncle John Edward Adams, Washington DC, Uncle Norman Corbett, Washington DC: Two Aunts Patricia and Brenda, Washington DC; Special Niece Destinee (children: Jayden, Jean and Hezekiah); Close and Special Friend, Sidney Feil and Several Nephews, Nieces, Cousins and a host of other loving relatives and friends. “Maggie Mae” the family pet will especially miss her. Public viewing for Dorlene will take place at Scarborough & Hargett Celebration of Life Center, Inc., 309 N Queen Street, Durham, North Carolina 27701, on Friday, October 1, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A service to celebrate the life of Dorlene Denise Thomas has been scheduled for Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 12:00 noon, at Antioch Baptist Church, 1415 Holloway Street, Durham, North Carolina 27703, with a viewing beginning at 11:00 a.m. Dorlene Denise Thomas will be laid to rest in Markham Memorial Gardens.
