Condolences are being expressed to the family of Mrs. Bessie Ruth Blackwell Cameron, age 81, who passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Roxboro Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Bessie Ruth Blackwell Cameron was born on December 18,1938, to the late Jack Lewis Blackwell and Irene Brown Blackwell of Hurdle Mills, North Carolina. She was a native of Person County and lived in Durham County. Bessie married Alexander Cameron July 14, 1956 and from their union they had three sons, Keith, Jack, and Kenny. Bessie was employed at Duke Medical Center until her retirement in 2003 where she was a CNA in the emergency room for years doing what she loved to do helping people. She was a faithful member of New Jerusalem Freewill Community Church and Order of the Eastern Start in Star of Hope Chapter #659 located in Durham. During her retirement she was advent volunteer as Guardian ad Litem, Volunteer in Durham NC, volunteered with the Welcome Baby Program of Durham foster care support, Thanksgiving Durham Rescue Mission kitchen and several soup kitchen’s. Bessie was a giver; she always opened her home to everyone who needed something to eat or a place to sleep. She believed in sacrificing everything for her family and her boys, her favorite pastime was gardening and canning. Preceding her in death is her love and husband Alexander Cameron, seven brothers Bobby Blackwell, Vernon Lee Blackwell, William (Duke) Fletcher Blackwell, Otha Lee (Duck) Blackwell, James Blackwell, Junious Jack Blackwell and Davis Bill Blackwell and two sisters Louise Blackwell and Jean Blackwell Torain. Left to cherish her memories are her three sons Keith Cameron of Durham, NC, Jack Cameron of South Carolina and Kenny Cameron (Angela) of Raleigh, NC. Four grandchildren Natasha Willis, Bianca Pinnix (Christopher), Garrington Cooper and Kendric Andersen Llyod Cameron. Plus, four great-grandchildren and one sister Elaine Blackwell Banks (Austin) of Roxboro and sister-in-law Dorothy Blackwell of Hurdle Mills, NC and host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A graveside service of celebration has been scheduled for Sunday, October 11, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at Glennview Memorial Park, 2515 NC Highway 55, Durham, North Carolina 27713. In every effort to protect our families and their guests, face coverings are required.
