Ms. Betty Jean Harris

August 27, 1931 - July 13, 2020

The family of Ms. Betty Jean Harris, age 88, announces her passing which occurred on Monday, July 13, 2020, at Duke University Hospital. After a brief illness, God called Betty Jean Harris into eternal rest. Betty was born August 27, 1931 to the late Bennie Lee and Lizzy Harris in Durham, North Carolina. She was employed at NIEHS and Hillandale Elementary School until she retired. She was a member of the Thrifty Saving Club. She loved to shop, travel, fish and most of all watch TV. Betty was always willing to help others and give them a place in her home. She was a delight to her family and friends and a source of Goodwill to a stranger. She was worth her weight in Gold. Betty is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Sonny and Jimmy; sisters, Earnestine and Geraldine; and sister-in-law, Julia Cole. Betty leaves to cherish her memories the children that she raised as her own, Frederick, Judy and Robin; nephews, Gary, Roman, Andre, Leroy, Vincent, Quinton and Clifton; niece, Francine; great niece, Karen; grandchildren, Corey, Carlos, Tehron, DeMario, Courtney, Ricky, Sharnika, Latesha and Monica; a very dear friend, Virgie Mangum; a very special granddaughter, Krystal; and a host of other loving family members and friends. A graveside service has been scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Beechwood Cemetery, 3300 Fayetteville Street, Durham, NC, 27707.
