Mrs. Dorothy Dobson Hayes

July 13, 1933 - July 17, 2019

Our heavenly Father called His daughter, Dorothy Dobson Hayes, home on Wednesday, July 17, 2019. She was born on July 13, 1933, to the late Arch Clarence Dobson and Mary Matthews Dobson in Surry County, North Carolina. Dorothy received her education at J.J. Jones High School in Dobson, North Carolina. She graduated from Winston-Salem Business School. She also attended numerous classes at North Carolina Central University. While working at Ellis Stone Department Store, she met her late husband, Rudolph Hayes. She became the dedicated military wife for his years of service. They relocated to Durham after his retirement from the U.S. Army. Dorothy joined Greater Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church and became an active member there. She served on the Kizzia Floral Club, participated in the Mass Choir and was involved in many church activities. Dorothy took great pride in her church and community involvement. Mrs. Hayes is survived by her son, Rudolph Douglas Hayes, Jr. (former wife - Gail M. Hayes) and daughter, Doris Anita Hayes both of Durham, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Linda Diane Hayes of Raleigh, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Joshua Matthew Hayes and Gabrielle Christina Hayes; and a host of extended family, friends and loved ones. A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at Greater St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1102 Juniper Street, Durham, North Carolina 27701 on Friday, July 26th; Family Visitation at 11:00 a.m. and Life Celebration Service at 12:00 noon, with Dr. William-Hazel Height delivering the eulogy. Mrs. Hayes will be laid to rest in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
