Ms. Ebony Celena Burnette Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Condolences are being expressed to the family of Ms. Ebony Celena Burnette, age 29, who passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020. Ms. Ebony Burnette, daughter of Douglas and Charlene Burnette, was born on July 20, 1990 and completed her assignment on March 13, 2020. She graduated from Hillside High School. Ebony embarked upon a collegiate education at Edgecombe Community College and was majoring in Health Information Management. She was employed at Duke University Medical Center in the Outpatient Physical and Occupational Therapy Department as a Financial Care Counselor. Ebony was a loving mother, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend to all that she knew. She was a hard worker and had many talents. In her free time, Ebony was a hair stylist, loved to travel, decorated, and cooked. Ebony was a member at Greater Waltown United Holy Church and served faithfully. She was a member of multiple choirs including Mass Choir, Inspirational Choir, and Voices of Praise. Additionally, Ebony assisted the Young People Choir and served as the secretary of the Young People Holy Association. You could always find her lending a helping hand in the kitchen, registering people at the church’s National Night Out Event, and teaching the children how to make arts and crafts. She was preceded in death by her grandparents--Samuel Edward Burnette, Luella Wynn Burnette, and Bessie Rowell. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Iyanna Burnette of the home; her parents, Douglas Burnette Sr. and Charlene Burnette of Durham, North Carolina; one brother; Douglas Burnette Jr.(Chanell) of Oxford, North Carolina; two nephews--Tyler Burnette and Avery Burnette of Oxford, North Carolina; six uncles--James Burnette of Durham, North Carolina, Thomas Burnette (Sue) of Pittsboro, North Carolina, Reverend Stanley Burnette (Laverne) of Moncure, North Carolina, William Jones Jr. of Columbia, South Carolina, Johnny Rowell (Joyce) of Durham, North Carolina and Tracy Rowell of Hyattsville, Maryland; five aunts--Annie B. Edwards (Bobby) of Mebane, North Carolina, Maggie Burnette of Durham, North Carolina, Lucille B. Patterson of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Bertha Thompson of Nichols, South Carolina and Margo Jones of Pouyallup, Washington; two Godmothers--Mrs. Michelle Spruell and Mrs. Brenda Fennell (Curtis) both of Durham, North Carolina; and a host of other relatives and friends. A Service of Celebration has been scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 2020, at Greater Waltown United Holy Church, 706 Belvin Avenue, Durham, North Carolina 27704. The family will assemble for a visitation from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the celebration service, at 1:00 p.m. respectively, with Elder Timothy Moore delivering the eulogy.
