Mrs. Elvira Daye Bostic, daughter of the late Lawrence, Jr. and Louise Daye, was born on December 31, 1955 in Durham, North Carolina passed away unexpectedly on August 27, 2019 at her residence in Raleigh, North Carolina. An inspiring, loving, kind and multi-talented lady, Elvira strived for excellence in every aspect of her life. Her early education was received in the Durham County Public School System, graduating from Northern High School, Durham, North Carolina. As she felt the need for training related to various job responsibilities, Elvira took classes at local colleges and universities. She taught for over 40 years, currently employed at Hillandale Elementary School prior to her passing. Elvira's lifelong passion was working with children. She devoted her entire career to students in Durham Public Schools. She started at the Lakeview Kindergarten Center in Durham, and later changed to Hillandale Elementary School. She taught hundreds of students how to read, do math, and be a better writer. Always ready to learn, Elvira took every available class and workshops offered. She was the local representative for the Durham Association of Teacher Assistants, continually being a voice for all Instructional assistants. She was voted by her peers to be Teacher Assistant of the Year several times, and was loved by teachers and students alike. Elvira's biggest gift to children was teaching them how to become the best person they could possibly be, always striving to grow and learn. Her own life was an example of how to be kind, responsible, and respectful of everyone. For more than 40 years, she showed us all how to be better people! Elvira was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Durham, North Carolina where she served as a member of the youth choir, adult choir and usher board for many years. Her home and generous heart was open, at all times, to anyone who needed a friend, or even a place to stay. She gladly entertained and prepared many hearty dinners for her friends and family. Always with a beautiful smile, she enjoyed treasured moments of chatting and laughing with those she loved.
