Mrs. Geraldine Fuller Lunsford

The family of Mrs. Geraldine Fuller Lunsford, age 82, announces her passing which occurred on Friday, April 24, 2020, at her home. Geraldine was born on Wednesday, January 5, 1938 in Durham, North Carolina to the late Rev. Robert L. Fuller and Althea Turner Fuller. She was preceded in death by her daughters Valerie H. Lunsford and Gwenda Lunsford. Geraldine grew up in the Hickstown area of Durham. She attended Durham Public Schools and graduated from Hillside High School in the Class of 1956. Geraldine attended Durham Technical College and received a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) degree. She served on the North Carolina Board of Nursing, the Black Nurses Association and the "LPN of the Year" award was presented to her. Her employment at Duke Lenox Baker Children's Hospital lasted for 30 years. Geraldine was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Drucilla Chapter 19. Geraldine was affectionately known as Gerry a.k.a. "The Queen" by her family. She was a woman of few words, but she never had difficulty in expressing her opinion or point of view. Geraldine was a smart business woman. Her flair for fashion and design was incredible. Every Sunday, "The Queen" would strut in with one of her spectacular hats, dynamite suits, gloves, handbag and shoes to match. She owned and operated several floral design shops and fashion was truly her passion. Geraldine joined Bell-Yeager Free Will Baptist Church under the past leadership of the late Bishop David H. Bell. She was a faithful, diligent servant of God. Geraldine joined the Bell-Yeager Hospitality Ministry and served as Treasurer. She even exemplified her talent by creating unique presentations to be presented to our past and current pastors. Her beauty and flair will always be remembered. She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Rosalind Lunsford, Althea Lunsford and Amelia Lunsford; one son, Darryl Lunsford; one sister, Patricia Brewer; seven grandchildren, Jazlyn Santana, Cedric Brandon, Paul Lunsford, Darriss Lunsford, Terry Lunsford, Robert Lunsford and Courtney Lunsford; a host of great grandchildren, extended family members and friends. Viewing for Mrs. Geraldine Lunsford will take place on Thursday, April 30, 2020, from 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m. at Scarborough & Hargett Celebration of Life Center, Inc., 309 N Queen Street, Durham, North Carolina 27701.
