Mr. James Howard Cameron

June 19, 1932 - March 17, 2022

Condolences are being expressed to the family of Mr. James Howard Cameron, age 89, who passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at his home. James was born June 19,1932 in Moore County, North Carolina to his parents, the late Caldwell and Martha Emma Cameron. At an early age, he joined First Baptist Church in Cameron, North Carolina and attended Moore County Public Schools graduating from Pinkney High School class of 1952. He matriculated at St. Augustine's University (formerly College) in Raleigh, North Carolina and was a loyal alumnus. While at St. Aug, he paused his education to serve in the US Army and was stationed in Korea for two years. He went on to attend Graduate school at North Carolina Central University pursuing a Master's degree in Special Education. James held various roles working as a 4th grade elementary teacher while living in South Carolina, working as a recruiter for the North Carolina Institution in Butner, North Carolina. After retiring from the State of North Carolina, he went back to work as a bus monitor for Durham Public Schools for 20 years. His greatest joy was working with special needs children. He joined Union Baptist Church under Dr. Grady D. Davis and was an active member on the Senior Usher Board, The Men's Bible Class, The Transportation Ministry and served on the Deacon Board for 25 years. He continued to attend Union Baptist until his health would no longer allow it. James was also a member of several organizations including American Legion Post #175, Durham Consistory #218, Zafa Temple #176, and Dorcas Lodge #460 which he served as Past Worshipful Master. In 1967, he was united in holy matrimony to Margaret Ann Richards. One daughter, Kimberly was born to this union. He was a devoted husband and father. Anyone who encountered him knew how much he loved his wife and daughter. In addition to his wife Margaret and daughter Kimberly (Michael and Chase), James is survived by his twin brother Charles Cameron and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Caldwell and mother, Martha, brothers, George and John and sister, Helen and several aunts and uncles. Services to celebrate the life of Mr. James Cameron are as follows: Public Viewing, Monday, March 21, 2022, at Scarborough & Hargett Celebration of Life Center, Inc., 309 N Queen Street, Durham, North Carolina 27701, from 12:00 noon - 6:00 p.m. Homegoing Service of Celebration, Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at 1:00 pm., at Mt. Calvary United Chruch of Christ, 1715 Athens Avenue 27707, with viewing from 12:00 noon - 12:55 p.m. In every effort to protect our families and their guests, face coverings are required.
