Commemorating the Life and Legacy of John Clarence “Skeepie” Scarborough, III With utmost grief and sorrow, family members of John C. “Skeepie” Scarborough, III, announce his departing this earth on November 7, 2020. As “Skeepie” journeyed on to his heavenly home, he left behind unnumbered broken hearts and a void in the lives of all who knew him that can never be filled. "Skeepie", as he was affectionately known, will live on through the lives of everyone who knew and loved him. We all will forever be nobler humans for having had the opportunity of knowing and loving him. This world was a better place because John C. “Skeepie” Scarborough, III meandered it, and will forever be less so now that he is absent from it. John C. “Skeepie” Scarborough, III, CFSP was the CEO of the Scarborough & Hargett Celebration of Life Center, Inc. His tenure as an official in the family company began in 1961. Along the way, his vision, leadership, and insight played a significant role in maintaining the funeral home's reputation as a leading company in the mortuary business at the local, state, and national levels. Beyond his involvement at the local level, he achieved prominence among his professional peers both at the state and national levels. With dedication and compassion, as President and CEO of the Scarborough & Hargett Celebration of Life Center, Inc., a 149-year-old family business, “Skeepie’s” desire was to continuously provide “A Dignified Service in a Sympathetic Way.” J.C. Scarborough, III, was from a long line of outstanding trailblazers and pioneers who have served their communities. J. C. Scarborough, III, had an exemplary record of public service, which was reflective of his many present and former acts of volunteering, memberships and leadership positions on boards and associations. "Skeepie" Scarborough's love and life-long commitment to his community; city, county, and state were exemplary of his active participation in civic, fraternal, and professional organizations. “Skeepie” gave unselfishly of his time and talents. On numerous occasions he was honored; yet he remained a "down to earth" public servant with total respect for all humanity. John C. "Skeepie" Scarborough, III exhibited talents, skills, and a personality that conveyed love, caring, grace and compassion and lived his life honorably. He was a kind, gentle, hard-working, and humble man who served all he cared for with the utmost dedication and relentless perseverance toward excellence. Cherishing his memory are his devoted wife Queen M. Scarborough; two children, Scottie and Tonya; grandchildren, Terrell, Tiaira, Samuel, Logan and Tyler; mother-in-law, Retha T. Marable; brother-in-law, Floyd Marable (Linda); sisters-in-law, Anna M. Gee (Willis) and Aretha M. Cunningham (Curtis); cousins, Sylvia Strong Wiggins, Yvonne Thompson, Brian Hargett Greene and Nathaniel E. Hargett, III; God sisters, Shirley Caesar and Melvina Parker; extended family members, employees and countless friends. "Skeepie" will be remembered for his indelible wit, sense of humor and polished level of respect for others.
