June 16, 1934 - August 29, 2018
The door of life closed gently as Marie F. King crept forward on a heavenly journey Wednesday afternoon, August 29, 2018. Marie was born in Chadbourn, N.C., June 16, 1934 to John B. Frank, Sr. and Martha Gowans Frink. She was united in holy matrimony to Jacob King who preceded her death. Also preceding her death were her parents: John B. Frink, Sr. and Martha Gowans Frink; two brothers, James W. Gowans and John B. Frink, Jr. Marie's Christian life was nurtured at an early age as a member of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, Chadbourn, N.C. In the late 50's she moved to Brooklyn, N.Y. and joined Morning Star Baptist Church, serving on the Usher Board. As she grew spiritually, she continued to serve as an Usher, Willing Workers President and a devoted Sunday School attendee at King Emmanuel Baptist Church, Brooklyn, N.Y. In 2001, she moved to Durham, N.C. and joined North East Missionary Baptist Church where she was a faithful member until her demise. Some of her favorite ministries which she participated in were Women's Sunday School, Sisters in Salvation and Bible Study. Marie graduated from Westside High School, Chadbourn, N.C. She later continued her education at Medgar Evers Community College, Brooklyn, N.Y. She pursued the desire to work with special needs children as a para professional for the New York City Board of Education, retiring in 1998. Marie played a significant role in shaping the lives of children in an often-unappreciated field and she never lost sight of her purpose. Marie's family and friends were very near and dear to her heart. Whenever a family member or friend would have trouble in their life, she would encourage them to "go to church". She enjoyed sewing, baking sweet potato pies, shopping sprees and reading books. She especially enjoyed reading her Bible and offering her spiritual gift of service/help to the community and her church. She was dedicated to God's kingdom, leaving a legacy of love and faith for her family and church. With fond and lasting memories, she leaves four sons; James C. (Miriam) King, Virginia Beach, V.A., Keith W. King, Chadbourn, N.C. Byron R. King, Virginia Beach, V.A., Shawn H. (Annie) King, Durham, N.C.; two daughters, Gwendolyn S. King and Sybil King, Durham, N.C.; her childhood sister/longtime friend, Mary Ruth Paige; one aunt, Bertha Lewis, New York, N.Y.; one great-uncle, James Frink, Fort Washington, M.D.; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
