Mrs. Mercie Lee Flowers

September 27, 1925 - January 3, 2021

Mercie Lee Flowers, 95, of Cary, NC, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 3, 2021. She was born and grew up in Edgar, FL. and graduated from Central Academy High School, Palatka, FL. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Samuel Flowers, her parents, Charlie J. and Mary M. James, her sisters, Irene Lewis(Robert), Elizabeth Campbell(Walter), Altamease Mallard(Eddie) and brothers Edward Samuel James, Charlie Hodges James, and Willie Rand James(Rose). She loved her family, was a dear friend to many, and continues to serve the Lord in heaven. She accepted the Lord at a very early age and "Glory to God", was one of her favorite phrases. She was a faithful member serving on the Usher Board, District #10, Missionary Society, and Deaconess Board of Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church, Jacksonville, FL. and while living with her daughter she faithfully attended Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, Durham, NC. She retired from Mark’s Hair Salon, Jacksonville, FL in 2009 and resided in Jacksonville, FL until 2015 when she resided with her loving daughter in Cary, NC until her passing. She is remembered by her children whom she loved unconditionally. She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Vena Flowers-Schuler of Cary, NC, Sydrena (Steven) Chambliss of Beaufort, SC , and her son Marvin Flowers (Valencia) of Tallahassee, FL.; ten grandchildren: Christopher Chambliss, LaShay Queen (Christopher),, Marvin Flowers Jr., Jonathan Tinnen, Porsha Chambliss, Zachary Flowers, Ashlee Flowers, Jordan Schuler, Isaiah Flowers; two great-grandchildren: Darius Chambliss, Zavaer Chambliss; sister-in-law Evelyn James of Hawthorne, FL; three god daughters: Norma Davenport (Arthur) of New York, Anjeanetta and Shawana Alexander of Jacksonville, FL; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held at Scarborough and Hargett Celebration of Life Center on Wednesday , January 13, 2021 at 2:30 pm. She will be then be laid to eternal rest in the Jacksonville National Cemetery next to her beloved husband on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 1:00 PM.
