Ms. Nina C. Massey
December 26, 1966 - September 2, 2021
Nina Carol Massey was born at the Columbia Hospital for Women in Washington, DC on December 26, 1966 to the late George Massey Jr. and Margaret Ann Woodard Massey. She departed this life on September 2, 2021 to enter her eternal life. Preceded in death by her sister Glenda Ann in 1977, she leaves to cherish her memories her Aunt Flora & Uncle Sam Jones of Capitol Heights, MD, her beloved devoted furry cat companion, Sheldon and a host of cousins, God-children, family, friends and acquaintances. Nina graduated high school at Camp Springs Christian School in Camp Springs, Maryland in 1985. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1989 from Strayer University, Washington, DC. In 2004, Nina graduated Central Piedmont Community College with an Associate Degree in Health Information Management in North Carolina. She graduated from The College of St. Scholastica in 2007, earning a master’s degree in Health Information Management. As a child, Nina attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Washington D.C. Upon relocating to North Carolina in 1992, she resumed her spiritual journey as a congregant of Markham Chapel Missionary Baptist Church until later joining Bethel Family Worship Center. There, she served as a nurse and shared her hilarious acting skills in the BFWC Drama Department. Nina’s love for travel led her to accept a position in Abu Dhabi, where she worked at Accenture, teaching and managing healthcare systems at the Cleveland Clinic. In 2006, Nina founded and became the Chief Academic Officer of The North Carolina Health Information Training Institute, an AHIMA accredited school that created curriculum and provided training to future coders based on AHIMA standards of coding. Nina remained passionate about teaching her beloved students. She relished in the opportunity of witnessing them progress in their desired careers and flourish in their newly acquired expertise. Her Health Information Management career spanned for over 25 years. More than her years of expertise, most will remember Nina for her vibrant, energetic, and exuberant demeanor. An inspiration to many, to know her was to love her, and to love her was to share your own unforgettable encounter while laughing hysterically and sharing jokes in her presence. Aside from her love of God, family, and Sheldon the cat, everyone—whether they asked for it or not—was introduced to her one true love: Prince, of course! Oh, the stories we could tell of her shenanigans at the sound of Purple Rain…or anything PRINCE, for that matter. If you dare sing a lyric, you’d better get it right! Nina remained the constant, exemplary representative of the importance of appreciating and enjoying life to its fullest and showing love to others by example. Though she shall be missed immensely, we remain forever grateful for the time that we were all allowed to engrain a piece of her beautiful memory in our hearts and minds to give a semblance of solace. May her laughter nudge us with peace and her zeal for life remind us of the gift of joy during the times that we miss her the most. A virtual service to celebrate the life of Nina C.
