November 10, 1962 - December 11, 2021
Sharon Yvonne Holmes, beloved daughter of Zelma Donnella Timmons Holmes and the late Joseph Holmes Sr., was born November 10, 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland. Sharon was the second child of three children, affectionately named “Baby Sis” by her big brother. After surviving cancer for 2.5 years, Sharon declared in January 2021 death had no sting and determined to walk fearlessly. On Saturday, December 11, 2021, she completed her sacrificial journey and transitioned from her earthly home to the awaiting arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her dad “Joe Rock.” “Behold, God, my salvation! I will trust and not be afraid, For the LORD GOD is my strength and song; Yes, He has become my salvation.” (Isaiah 12:2 AMP) Sharon attended Sunday School regularly at an early age with her siblings. She gave her life to Christ as an adult while visiting her parent’s church, New Freedom Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. After relocating to North Carolina in January 2007, Sharon joined a local church, Pleasant Grove Church (PGC), Cary, NC, rededicating her life to Christ Jesus and was baptized April 27, 2008. At PGC, under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Classy Preston, Sharon gave a full measure of her service, her devotion, and her gifts for over 10 years. She faithfully served in the Usher Ministry, on the PGC Sanctuary Choir and Women’s Choir, and in the Outreach, Ministry supporting the Morrisville Summer Food site and the Habitat for Humanity Church Coalition Build. Sharon participated in PGC’s Women’s Connection Group and joyfully served as Co-Chair of the Nursery Ministry, where she loved the sweetness of reading and singing with children and creatively teaching about the bible through arts and crafts. “I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14 AMP) Sharon attended Baltimore City Schools and graduated from Northwestern High School where she was a cheerleader and fell in love with basketball and football. After graduation, she attended Baltimore City Community College building her natural artistic skills in visual arts, fine and decorative arts, specifically photography, drawing, painting, and design. Sharon found her niche in charcoal drawing and interior design. Oddly, her creative hands were not able to do little girls’ hair, but she could bake and cook all night long and taught young girls the art of enhancing their beauty with make-up. “Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, take pleasure in Him]; again, I will say, rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4 AMP) Sharon’s career included a span of daycare and human resource services, retail, office administration and banking. Her most rewarding pathway was in banking, expanding her experience and knowledge in financial services over 15 years with First Union and Wachovia banks and JPMorgan Chase until the downturn of the economy in 2007. Sharon exceled in this career as an Operations Specialist, Processing Manager and Senior Analyst as she advanced to a Process Trainer position for JP Morgan Chase, traveling to lead process improvement and build high performance teams in Chicago, Delaware, and Arizona. “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the rock and strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Psalm 73:26 AMP) Sharon is survived and cherished by her beloved son Antoine Anderson of Baltimore, Maryland; her dear mother Zelma Donnella Timmons Holmes of Baltimore, Maryland; her brother Joseph Holmes Jr. (Paulette) of Charlotte, North Carolina; her sister Karen Holmes Morant (Eugene aka “Gino”) of Durham, North Carolina; sister in-law Melanie K. Morant of Baltimore, Maryland; six nieces: Mahogany D. Wallace (Jerome) of Baltimore, Maryland; Chanel Y. Barber of Baltimore, Maryland; Michele S. Barber of Baltimore, Maryland; Donnella M. Holmes-Venerable (Donald) of Baltimore, Maryland; Shaniece Z. (aka "Sharon's Niece”) Holmes of Charlotte, North Carolina and Miya Donnella Morant of Durham, North Carolina; seven great nephews, seven great nieces and a host of cousins and friends. A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life of Ms. Sharon Yvonne Holmes will be held at Pleasant Grove Church, 1528 Davis Drive, Cary, North Carolina 27519, on Saturday, January 8th; Visitation at 11:30 a.m. and Life Celebration Service at 12:00 noon. For those who are unable to be in attendance, the service will be live streamed and can be accessed via the Church’s website, https://pgc-cary.org/ by clicking on the “Live Stream” button on the home page. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends who loved her dearly. With the current ongoing surge of COVID-19 and its variants, the Holmes/Morant family has asked that you obtain a COVID-19 PCR test within 48-96 hours (Tuesday – Friday) prior to the Service if you plan to attend. PCR tests have been determined to give the most accurate results. Please note that this is our most valiant effort to prevent anyone from contracting COVID-19 while in attendance at the Service, as we expect a large attendance. We also want to protect each other, particularly our elderly and children who will be in attendance. We continue to encourage all of you to please get vaccinated and obtain your booster, if eligible. Please note that verification of a not detected/negative test result must be presented in order to attend the service. You will also be required to complete a PGC COVID-19 Screening form provided by the church.
