Mrs. Wanda Bass Rudd
October 14, 1958 - June 16, 2018
It pleases Almighty God to call from this earthly labor to eternal rest, the soul of our loved one, Mrs. Wanda Bass Rudd, Saturday, June 16, 2018. Although she endured a devastating illness, Mrs. Rudd exhibited strength, kindness and love for others. Mrs. Wanda Bass Rudd, a devoted and caring daughter of the late Julious Bass and Myrtle Bass, was born October 14, 1958. She received her formal education in the Durham County schools and attended North Carolina Central University (NCCU) and The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In 1982, Wanda earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry at Chapel Hill. While attending NCCU, Wanda became a member of the illustrious sisterhood of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Mrs. Rudd later employed with Wake County and worked as a dental hygienist for several years. July 9, 1994, Wanda was united in Holy Matrimony to Dr. Samuel Rudd. This union was blessed with a precious daughter, Amanda Briel, a senior at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Professing her life to Christ at an early age, Wanda was baptized and became a member of Community Baptist Church, Durham, N.C. She and her family later united with St. Joseph African Methodist Episcopal Church, Durham, N.C. where she participated in various auxiliaries including the Inspirational Singers Choir. Wanda remained a faithful member of St. Joseph until her health declined. As an avid supporter of public school education, Wanda volunteered extensively throughout Amanda's schooling at Parkwood Elementary, Rogers-Herr Middle and Hillside High Schools. She served as president of the Hillside PTA for many years and held the office even after the graduation of her daughter. She was concerned about a quality education for all students and advocated tirelessly on their behalf. To that end, she often attended and spoke passionately about the needs of all students at the Durham Pubic Schools Board of Election meetings. Additionally, Wanda was a loyal and consistent volunteer at her church, reporting for 'duty' in its administrative office each Friday. Among all her notable roles, her devotion and commitment to her immediate family were most noteworthy. Wanda cherished and dearly loved Samuel, Amanda, Myrtle, Julious and Tony. Her actions were a daily testimony of her loving devotion and commitment to her family. Mrs. Wanda Bass Rudd leaves to cherish her special memories her devoted husband, Dr. Samuel Rudd, daughter, Amanda Briel, mother, Mrs. Myrtle Bass and stepson, James Elliott Rudd. Wanda was preceded in death by her father Julious Bass and brother, Julious Antonio Bass. Her surviving aunts and uncles include Gertrude Morrow (Calvin), Greensboro, N.C.; Olivia Guest, Atlanta, G.A.; Walter Nash, Greensboro, N.C.; Glovenia Thomas, Sparkhill, N.Y.; Eunice Gist (Jimmie), Charlotte, N.C.; Larry Bass (Joyce), Raleigh, N.C.; Gus Maultsby, Rougemont, N.C.; Dovie Bass, Durham, N.C.; Agnes Bass, Greensboro, N.C.
