Mr. Derrick L. Moore

It is with great sadness that the family of Mr. Derrick L. Moore, age 40, announces his passing which occurred on Friday, December 10, 2021, at his home. Derrick L. Moore born on August 10, 1981, to his parents Gloria Moore Daniel and Kenneth Hinton. Derrick loved cooking and was a 'master' of the grill; a pastime that he absolutely adored. He also loved fishing (especially night fishing) and painting. Derrick was a genuinely sweet man with an amazing personality and wonderful sense of humor; he always turned a bad situation into a laughable story. He had a knack for making everyone laugh, even in serious situations. His love for his family and friends was known to everyone that came in contact with him...(he did not play about family). Derrick embraced life with joy; even the smallest things excited him and brought a smile to his face. As mischievous and as tricky as he could sometimes be, he never neglected to share the wisdom he received from his grandfather and older friends, with the young men around him. 'Debo' as he was affectionately called, was known and loved throughout his community because of his kind heart, his giving nature, and unconditional love for others. Derrick also loved to watch Lifetime TV movies and dared you to laugh at him about it. He was an amazing man and an extraordinary individual and will be greatly missed by us all. Derrick is preceded in death by his brother Shaun, maternal grandfather Edward Moore, paternal grandfather and grandmother, Cleveland and Lydia Hinton, and granddaughter Serenity. Derrick leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Gloria Daniel (Rodney) and Kenneth Hinton (Marcia); grandmother, Annie E. Moore; daughters, Lashawna Moore and ShaTan Lloyd; sons, Derrick Moore, Jr., Quante' Parker and Dante' Parker; companion Nikki Poole; five grandchildren, Josiah, King, Noah, Melanie, and Sanai; sister, Gabrielle Daniel; three brothers, Tyrece Moore, Kenneth and Roderick Hinton; one nephew, Tyrece Moore, Jr.; and a host of aunts, cousins, friends and loved ones. A public viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021, at Scarborough & Hargett Celebration of Life Center, Inc., 309 N Queen Street, Durham, NC 27701. A service to celebrate the life of Derrick L. Moore has been scheduled for Sunday, December 19, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., at Antioch Baptist Church, 1415 Holloway Street, Durham, North Carolina 27703, with a viewing beginning at 12:00 noon.
