Mrs. Jerail Sylver Wingate

Jerail Sylver Wingate of Durham, North Carolina transitioned into eternal rest at the age of 88 years old on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at her home. Jerail Lee Sylver Wingate was born in Enfield, NC on June 18, 1934, to her dearly departed parents, Buddie Archie Silver and Mary Thorne Silver. She was affectionately called “Prissy” and “Jewell Lee” by her loved ones she lived up to Prissy! A lady of class and style! Mrs. Wingate grew up in Walltown and attended Hillside High School in Durham, NC. Shortly after graduation she was joined in marriage to the late Willie Marshall Wingate, Sr. From their blissful union six children were born. She was a devoted and supportive military wife for 21 years traveling with her husband and family to Georgia, California, Oregon, France and Bermuda later making Durham, North Carolina her home. Upon her return to the States, and when she knew their children were old enough, she became a dedicated supervisor within Crum & Forster where she later retired in 1989. She leaves to cherish precious memories her children, Marcia Lynn Green of Durham, North Carolina, Cynthia Yvonne Jackson of Durham, North Carolina, Mavis Katrina Wilson (Hal) of La Plata, Maryland, Mary Anna Springfield (Clyde) of Lanham, Maryland and a daughter in law, Valita Holmes of Durham, North Carolina. Her grandchildren: Chifonda Wingate, Shay Wingate (Ashleigh), Aleia Wilson and Joshua Wilson. Her brother, DeArchie Sylver (Dolores), niece, Desiree and nephew DeArchie Sylver, Jr. (Rozii), sister in law, Beatrice Ellis with nieces, Sharon (Lewis), Angela Ellis, Chandra Ewell (Roi) and Adrienne Ellis. Also surviving are her great grand children: Christopher Sweet, Telah Wingate, Noah Lytle, Corin Wingate, Taia Lytle, Mesiah Wardlow, and Jarmil Wardlow. Great nieces Renee Merriman (Sada), Courtney Foust, Sydney Foust, Aria Sylver, great nephew Christopher Ellis, and a host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Willie Marshall Wingate, Sr., daughter Debra Valencia Wingate, son Willie Marshall Wingate, Jr., grandson Jarmal B. Wingate, maternal parents Buddie Archie Silver and Mary Thorne Silver, paternal parents the Mazerine Wingate and Anna Dixon Wingate of Lexington Park, MD and niece Joyce Steele. A celebration of Jerail's life will be held at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church, 917 Onslow Street, Durham, North Carolina 27705 on Wednesday, June 29th; Family Visitation at 11:00 a.m. and Life Celebration Service at 12:00 noon.
