Mrs. Laura Cornelia Whitted Hemingway

It is with great sadness that the family of Mrs. Laura Cornelia Whitted Hemingway, age 92, announces her passing which occurred on Sunday, August 9, 2020. On August 9, 2020, our Heavenly Father saw fit to call from our midst our beloved mother, daughter, sister and grandmother Laura Cornelia Whitted Hemingway to eternal rest at her daughter’s home in Carrboro, North Carolina. She was born October 16, 1927, in Durham, North Carolina, to the late Minnick Whitted and the late Geneva Harris Jones. Three sons preceded her in death, LeVonso, Willie, Jr. and Minnick Hemingway. Six brothers, as well, preceded her in death, Alvis, Otis, Henry, Doll and Earlie Whitted. Laura met and married (RB) Willie Hemingway, from Lois, South Carolina. In union, twelve children were born. The family moved to Lois, South Carolina and then later moved back to North Carolina to raise the children. Laura worked at a Tobacco Company in Durham, North Carolina. She was a wife and mom. Working in tobacco fields to help keep her family going. Laura retired from Burlington Industrial in Reidsville, North Carolina. After 20 years of service, she cleaned houses for a living before working in the Mills. She spent most of her life with her Aunt Sally Whitted, who raised her to be strong and to take care of herself. Laura loved everyone; she didn’t meet any strangers. Laura leaves to cherish her sweet memories; James L. Hemingway, of Graham, North Carolina, Petrillia A. Moore of Hackensack, New Jersey; Rayvonso Hemingway (Evelyn) Hemingway of Florida; Angelene Hemingway of Alexandria, Virginia; Glenn (Sally) Hemingway of Kentucky, Cleveland (Marylin) Hemingway of Burlington, North Carolina, Larry (Marisol) Hemingway of Sanford, North Carolina, Patty Hemingway of Burlington, North Carolina and last but not least, Cinderella Hemingway (Rella) Jackson of Carrboro, North Carolina; 30 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; raised from birth, Teresa Hemingway, her granddaughter and Clarence Moore, Jr., her grandson; Joe and Brenda King, Anthony and James Hemingway and Jermaine Rutledge as well. Yvette, Yvonne, LeVonso, Jr. Hemingway were always with their grandmother during summer vacation. Laura also leaves to cherish her memories many nieces, nephews, extended family members, her best friend Vivian Murray, who spent every Wednesday and many Sundays with her, even on snow days and CNA Cynthia DeJournette, who came faithfully everyday. She treated Cynthia as her granddaughter. She will be greatly missed by all that were blessed to have known her. A graveside service of celebration for Mrs. Laura Cornelia Whitted Hemingway has been scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Graves Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, 5373 Badgett Sisters Pkwy, Yanceyville, NC, 27379, with viewing from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Reverend Tommy Williamson will be delivering the eulogy.
